Formula Vee - a pre-1963 Volkswagen Beetle body

I’ve always had a deep love for racing, and being part of the iRacing community has made that passion even stronger. One car in particular holds a special place in my heart – the Formula Vee. It’s the car that started it all for me in open-wheel racing.

For those who may not know, the Formula Vee is a legendary beginner’s open-wheel single seater, built on the foundation of a 1963 Volkswagen Beetle. With its tube frame, lightweight fiberglass body, and emphasis on driver skill over sheer power, it perfectly embodies what grassroots racing is all about – accessibility, learning, and pure driving joy.

This car is proof that you don’t need the most expensive machine to feel the thrill of racing. It’s affordable, approachable, and yet still delivers an unforgettable and challenging experience on the track. That’s why I wanted to share it here – because Formula Vee is not just a car, it’s a gateway into the racing world for so many of us.
