Description
Version 2 of my dashboard mount (requiring no glue, adhesives, or car modifications) for 2013-2018 Toyota RAV4 vehicles, compatible with the popular “Plasticlamp” build-your-own-phone-holder system available here: https://www.printables.com/model/454546-plasticlamp-multi-purpose-clamp-adjustable-phone-h
Important: Bambu's PETG-HF filament does NOT seem to have adequate heat resistance to withstand the heat of direct sunlight in a parked car, it will warp noticeably in a matter of hours. Use a third-party PETG, or another more heat-resistant filament like ABS.
My original mount model (https://makerworld.com/en/models/881731-rav4-phone-holder-dash-mount-for-plasticlamp) warped slightly after several months of summer use, causing it to pop off. This mount has the following improvements:
To use this you'll have to remove a dashboard panel, drop this on top of it, and then put the panel back to lock the mount into place. Watch the first 45 seconds of this video for instructions on removing the relevant dashboard panel (it's pretty easy):
A similar left-side version of this mount is available here: https://makerworld.com/en/models/1087686-rav4-left-side-dashboard-mount
Update 9/9/2025: Added a “noholes” STEP file with no holes in it to make remixing for other types of mounts easier. Use the “Download STL/CAD Files” option to download available STEP files.
I'm also including an example of a custom phone mount arm that I made as a starting point for making your own custom mount, which is similarly compatible with the PlatiClamp system, including the use of M3 screws and nuts for assembly. I made this because I like having my phone closer to the steering wheel, but the ball joints in the PlastiClamp system tend to become loose and slippery and unable to hold their position when repeatedly heated and cooled over time, so a mostly-stationary mount helps eliminate most of that issue. These example parts are specific to this disassembled magnetic mount and a phone/case that's 75mm wide; unless you happen to have both you'll have to design your own holder using this as an example.
