Description

I couldn't justify the cost of the official SawStop over arm dust collection system so I built my own budget version.  It features a pivoting arm that supports the dust collection hose, that is attached to the blade guard.  The hose exits the bottom of the support tube for easy connection to a standalone dust collector a split port at the bottom of the saw base.  The vertical and horizontal tubing is standard 2" os diameter clear dust collection plastic pipe.  I'm not much of a painter, so rather than painting the tube black to match my saw, I wrapped it using gloss black vinyl wrap.  It turned out to be less expensive than a can of spray paint and it's easy to apply.  You will need to use a razor blade to trim the vinyl from the ends of the tubing that will be inserted into the 3d printed parts.  I cut out the lettering on the side of the horizontal tube with my diode laser, from some dollar store vinyl.  I'm told the fumes from the vinyl can be toxic, so be sure your laser is vented.  You will require four printed parts for this build.  First is the base, that receives the end of the vertical post tube.  This bracket is bolted to the underside of the rear fence rail.  If your rail is the same as mine,  the holes in the bracket should line up perfectly with existing holes in the fence rail.  The vertical rail is not glued in place to allow the unit to pivot.  Next, you will need to print the 90 degree elbow.  If you find the fit of the tubing is a hair too tight in this fixture, use a heat gun to warm up the interior of the elbow joint.  If the fit is too loose, use some CA glue to secure the tubing in place.  For the end of the horizontal tube, I have provided a 3D print file to create a decorative end ring.  This is entirely optional…..it's only purpose is to make the unit look finished.  Finally, you will need to print the angled attachment that connects the vacuum hose to the blade guard.  You will also need to purchase a vacuum hose that fits within the tubing and will bend around the elbow.  Good luck with your build.
