Description
Gastrodon#423:
"It has a pliable body without any bones. If any part of its body is torn off, it grows right back." ~Pokemon Diamond Pokedex entry
This flexi Gastrodon model comes in 4 colorful forms! The East Sea and West Sea forms are official pokemon, but I wanted to expand on the existing variety with some fakémon of my own.
Inspired by the great biodiversity of sea slugs (the critter Gastrodon is based on), I came up with a South Sea and an Angel Sea form. The South Sea form is based on Glaucus atlanticus commonly called "Blue Dragons" and the Angel Sea form is based on Gymnosomata commonly called "Sea Angels"
If you want to learn more about the very real slugs these forms are based on, i've included a short description in the print profiles of each model.
Each model is separated into the body half and the shell half. This allows users with 1 AMS to print the 5 colors used in these models and also greatly cuts down on purge requirements and print times. That being said, there's still a lot of filament swaps so I recommend printing multiple shells on a single plate and running a purge calibration to minimize waste for your specific filaments. Once all pieces are printed they can be glued together by adding glue to the top of the Body piece, and inserting the top part through the narrow neck canal in the shell, and pressing The pentagonal core of the shell into the slot on the body.
The South Sea form also has "wings and horns" printed separately to greatly reduce waste and improve strength that can be glued into the slots on the shell.
I wanted this model set to highlight the beautiful variety in colors and forms that sea slugs display so I highly encourage users to recolor the models as they see fit. I had a lot of fun with glow-in-the-dark and Transparent PLA.
As always, happy printing!
