Description
2026-01-27 Update: Added clip_stem_length parameter, to offset the clip from the board. Can be used to hold items of specific shapes.
2025-11-22 Update: Now the threads have blunt start by default, which should help prevent cross-threading and overtightening. Models with blunt threads have a decorative 'lock' symbol at the bottom. If you prefer the earlier version, or want to use this model with David's original snaps, you can change 'threads_type' in the customizer.
Recommended to use with self-expanding snaps.
An open-source generic holder/clip generator for openGrid. The shape, size, thickness, and orientation of the holder are fully customizable.
When it comes to mounting custom objects to openGrid, BlackjackDuck's Multiconnect Part Generator is a good solution. But in some cases, I find a flexible "clip" easier to use than a regular under-the-object holder, as it allows me to take the object from the front rather than from above. So I designed these with a front tip for easier insertion, and an optional knurling pattern to increase friction and prevent slipping.
If you don't need a clip, simply disable the tip/knurling and use it as a regular holder. The customizer supports both vertical and horizontal orientations, with additional adjustments like a tilted entry point. Overall this model is versatile, filament-efficient, and reasonably strong when used with self-expanding snaps.
I usually print these with PETG. Depending on how flexible you want the holder to be, you can also print with PLA or TPU.
