Since getting my A1 Mini, I received a free Boat Kit 010 with it. Honestly, it just collected dust on the shelf for a while because there weren’t many models for the kit available on MakersWorld. Eventually, I decided to take matters into my own hands and build something unique.
This project was sidelined for some time, but the Battleship Contest finally gave me the incentive to finish it. The result is a tribute to the iconic Soviet Dreadnought from Command & Conquer: Red Alert 2.
The base design was remodeled from a Red Alert 3 mod (with permission) – specifically the C&C Condition Red project on ModDB: Soviet Dreadnought. From there I adapted, rescaled, and reworked the model into a functional kit build for the BambuLab Boat Kit.
I originally planned to make the rocket ramps articulate, but this turned out to be a structural and printing challenge in a short time (might include it in a version 2.0). Instead, I went for a static low poly model reflecting the sprites from the game – and I’m very happy with how it turned out.
This build is compatible with the BambuLab Boat Kit 010 wind-up motor, and can be printed on any BambuLab printer, including the A1 Mini. All parts will print (and are tested) on the standard PEI plate, though for best results I recommend a SuperTack Cool Plate or an aftermarket Cool Plate (except when printing PLA Silk).
Last but not least: the Dreadnought not only looks the part, it actually floats and can be wound up to sail with the Boat Kit motor. I also included a printable display stand so the model can be proudly shown off when it’s manifesting its twin V3 rockets’ red glare for liberating the USA from its Allied capitalist overlords.
