Overview:

My Sovol SV08 came with a tool to help with hotend clogs.  It is a thin (1.1 mm) piece of wire with a loop on one end.  It actually works quite well, but I wanted to design a handle that makes it more comfortable to use.

I struggled with a good design that was easy to print, easy to assemble and disassemble.  I’ve included two versions here:

  1. Dovetail – In this version, you simply slide the tool into the top of the handle then slide a dovetailed key across the top to secure it.  This is my favorite, but it requires a brim while printing and a little post-processing to clean that brim up.  I also needed to drill out the center hole slightly.  The key’s fit is tight enough that it does not come loose on its own while still being able to slide out if needed.
  2. Pinned – This version splits the handle in half with pins on one half that locate it and secure it with the other half.  This is slightly difficult to assemble due to trying to keep the tool located in its spot while pressing the halves together.  The fit is good and will not easily come apart.  I added a groove to the top to insert a flathead screwdriver to separate the halves.

I’ve included my Fusion 360 file to modify the clearance parameter and dial in the best fit for your printer.  Or you can use the file to create a different style handle which I would love to see.

Printing:

Print in any filament you wish.  Print with the orientation shown in the images and add a brim to the dovetailed version. No supports required.
