Description

This is my custom designed seedling germinator, designed with reuse of standard size seedling punnets in mind to reduce time and material cost of printing. Due to the print volume limitation of the X1C/P1S, you still need to snip off the long edges of the punnets to get them to fit. 

 

The germinator leverages a wicking bed setup. Cut a cotton fabric to size and lay over the wicking bed component and place into the water tray. When using a wicking material like coco coir, moisture will be wicked up and create a consistently wet environment suitable for germinating many seed types. 

 

Add on the humidity dome to increase the humidity level to enhance germination rate for some seeds. 

 

Included in the profile are some designs for seedling punnets in case you do not have any standard size punnets or want an increased density of cell count for germination. 

 

In my testing, the water tray doesn't leak, but if you want to guarantee no leaks, spray the exterior with a clear enamel paint. 

 

This design is intended to make efficient use of filament, compared to other designs using over 1KG of filament;

 

  • Humidity Dome 50mm: ~100g
  • Humidity Dome 100mm: ~160g
  • Wicking Bed: ~75g
  • Water Tray: ~140g
  • Dome Riser: ~95g (Optional with 100mm dome) 
  • Punnet 4x8: ~150g
