Description
Unleash the fury of Smaug the Magnificent!
This isn’t just another dragon print—it’s a true showpiece designed to command attention. For all of us The Hobbit & Lord of the Rings lovers. From the menacing curve of his horns to the fiery glare in his eyes, every scale, ridge, and tooth captures the raw power and pride of Tolkien’s greatest dragon. The detail is so crisp that it looks ready to take flight right off your print bed.
Smaug’s bust makes for an unforgettable centerpiece—perfect for any fantasy lover, collector, or maker who wants to test their printer’s precision limits. The sculpt’s high‑contrast surfaces are ideal for painters and detail enthusiasts, and the final result feels like something straight from a museum exhibit or movie prop room.
This model was part of my ongoing effort to fine‑tune MF3 slicing and support settings. The intricate horn geometry and open jaw challenge your printer, but the end result is well worth it—a striking, lifelike bust that embodies both craftsmanship and the legend of Smaug. This version is nuts with about 1 million triangles. I wanted to keep that extreme level of detail but you can select the option to reduce the triangles to medium level which is about 26,000 triangles.
The print shown in these photos was produced using modified Bambu Studio settings for the P1S. Several adjustments were made to optimize surface detail and reduce vibration:
These were the settings used for the final print pictured here. While they yielded excellent detail, there is still room for improvement and tuning for even better surface finish and efficiency.
Supports under the chin and between the horns can be carefully removed with flush cutters or tweezers. A soft toothbrush or compressed air works well to clear fine strands.
For an enhanced finish, apply a black wash or metallic dry‑brush to bring out Smaug’s intricate scale texture and dramatic facial details.
Creator's Note
Please give me feedback, good or bad so I can try to improve the design or update the settings. Thank you and I would love to see what you guys print out. It might be challenging due to the level of details and supports, so please, take your time….. Or rush it and show me the results!! ;-)
