2025-11-05 update

================================================================================================================

The model has been modified to minimize the phenomenon of the knee armor falling off.

The lower part of the abdominal part has been modified to a flat shape.

An experimental V4 skeleton with protrusions has been added. While it doesn't completely resolve the loosening issue, it does delay the loosening process when printed with PLA. It also prevents loosening during initial assembly. It also works without issues when printed with PETG.

For the V4 skeleton, the ball part has a brim added. Also, the layer height is 0.12mm.

🔧 Proto9 V3 Profile Update

Hey friends,

The Proto9 V3 profile has just been uploaded!

I originally wanted to keep my own unique ball joint connection style,

but after receiving feedback from users who found certain joints difficult to assemble

and experiencing some challenges myself when printing at larger sizes—I decided to switch back to the top-down connection method used in earlier models.

This change should make assembly much easier for everyone.

Thanks again for all your support and feedback 🙏

If you want to use the side-joining skeleton in this version, please use the profile below. This is useful if the skeleton breaks when printed with PLA.

additional comment

================================================================================================================

My English is not very good, so I'm using a translator, so there may be some errors in the translation. Please understand.

Hey friends,

Recently, I noticed some comments suggesting that I copied Dummy13, while others have been supporting my decisions.
It seems like there’s a bit of tension between the two sides, so I’d like to share my thoughts and perspective.

As I’ve said before, I understand both sides—and I truly appreciate everyone’s input.

Constructive criticism is always valuable in any community.

From a design standpoint, I understand why some people might think my model looks similar to Dummy13.
That’s why I clearly stated early on:
“While designing, I kept worrying that people might compare it to Dummy13 or think it’s a copy.”

Dummy13 is already so well-known that such comparisons are inevitable.
But I also believe that fear of criticism shouldn’t stop us from creating.

As I worked on the model, this shape was simply the natural result of the process.

To be honest, I’m not even a fan of rigid, android-like designs.
Most of my uploads lean toward flexible, human-like forms.

But those are harder to model and even harder to revise—maybe because I’m still an amateur, not a professional modeler.

One of the biggest challenges is that rounded shapes often require small parts to be positioned upward during printing.
For experienced 3D printer users, this might not be a big issue.

But for others, it can make printing more difficult.
Sure, you can add a brim or print parts separately—but that adds complexity and might discourage people from trying.

Flattening just one side could help, but it would ruin the shape—and I didn’t want that.

This was a tough decision for me.

I realized that what I personally wanted and what would be easier for others to print and enjoy were two different things.
So I compromised and created my own frame—something easier for me to work with and more approachable for others.

I never set out to replicate Dummy13.

It just ended up looking this way through the process.

Try starting with a simple box shape and refining it—you’ll see how easily it leads to this form.

Print it, test it, tweak it…
“Oh, this part’s awkward.” Fix it.
“Oh, this looks too plain.” Fix it again.

For example, the chest structure where parts connect from top and bottom—

It was simply the best solution I could find, since the ball-joint system I chose made mid-body connections difficult.

As I modeled, printed, and assembled each part, I often thought:
“Is this why Soozafone designed it that way?”

This isn’t a clone of Dummy13.
It’s just a foundation for offering more accessible and enjoyable models.

Still, if some people believe it’s a copy—I respect that opinion too.
Everyone sees things differently.

I hope we can stop spending energy on emotional back-and-forth in the comments.
Or… maybe we haven’t even started yet? Haha.

I’ll take full responsibility for any criticism.

Some may empathize, others may think this is just an excuse.
But I wanted to share my honest thoughts one last time.

Dummy13 is already a legendary, proven model.
Proto9 will never surpass it.

I just hope you see it as something new to enjoy.

Whether your feedback is positive or negative—thank you for caring.

Peace!

P.S.

I came up with the name Proto9 because I thought it was fun and fitting—but I understand that some people might think I copied it from somewhere.

Originally, I named it Null-O, short for “null object,” since it was just a blank starting point.
Before that, I asked ChatGPT for name ideas, but none of them really clicked with me.

Even before uploading my first YouTube video, I was still unsure about the name.
But since I was planning to release it as a prototype, the name Proto9—which ChatGPT had suggested—suddenly felt like a perfect match.

Also, I remembered someone in my community had jokingly referred to a model as Dummy14, and that made Proto9 feel even more playful and fitting.

Naming is seriously tough.

original comment

================================================================================================================

Hey friends!

I thought it was pretty much done, but I kept finding things to tweak—so yeah, it took a bit longer than expected 😅

If I kept waiting for perfection, I’d never upload it… so here it is, as a prototype!

I usually stick to human-shaped models, but honestly, they’re tough to make—and probably just as tough for you to print. So I figured it’s time to go in a new direction.

That’s why I decided to create my own custom figure frame, and this prototype is the result!

While designing it, I kept worrying people might compare it to Dummy 13 or think it’s a copy. So I made sure to avoid anything that felt too similar to Dummy 13’s unique features.

That said, the skeleton + armor structure was kind of unavoidable from a functional standpoint—hope you understand.

I named it Proto 9! Or hey, call it Dummy 14 if you want 😂

I printed the skeleton in PETG at 0.2mm layer height, and the armor in PLA at 0.2mm.
I haven’t tested it with ABS or other materials, so if anyone gives it a shot, I’d love to hear how it goes!

Getting to this prototype took tons of test prints and reassemblies.

The photos below show just a few of those attempts.

Some of you might print and assemble it without any issues—others might hit snags right from the start.
I’m sorry I can’t make it perfect for every setup, but please know I really did my best.

The model stands at approximately 150mm tall based on the design.
And yes… the ball joints have a weirdly specific diameter of 5.3mm

For the profile parts, I slowed the first layer speed to 25mm/s since there are small ball-joint pieces.
No brim or supports needed—it printed fine for me on a Cool Plate SuperTack, but I haven’t tested other build plates.

As long as you pay a little attention to first-layer adhesion, printing should go smoothly!

Also, all left/right parts are identical, and aside from the knees, the ball-joint pieces are the same size—so assembly shouldn’t be too tricky.
Check out the YouTube video for guidance!

I’m uploading the Spider-Man version alongside this one, since I already had a reference ready—it was an easy conversion.
I plan to make Deadpool, Iron Man, and other characters using this frame too.

Would love your support so I can keep uploading more models!

I’ll take any feedback—even the tough stuff—with an open mind.

Thanks so much, friends.

Hope you have a great time with it.

And hey… consider subscribing to my YouTube channel!

Even though my channel isn’t all that exciting and there’s not much to see…😄

And hey friends—just a heads up, I only want to upload my models to MakerWorld.
Please don’t share them on other sites. I’d really appreciate it 🙏
