NFC Album Cover Magnet (Tutorial)

Bring your favorite albums back into your daily life – not just in your ears, but also as stylish eye-catchers on your wall or fridge!
This model is more than just a decorative element: it combines digital music with physical presence. With a magnetic base and swappable album covers, you can turn your home into a personal gallery of your musical highlights.

An integrated NFC tag allows your smartphone to instantly link to the album – whether it’s on Spotify, Apple Music, or Amazon Music. This project beautifully blends nostalgic music enjoyment with modern technology.

What you get:

What you need:

• AMS and suitable filament.
• Access to the Makerworld Lightbox Maker.

• NFC tags (optional).

Step-by-step guide - How to create your own (Takes max. 5 minutes):

All you need is the makerworld software and the lightboxmaker.

 

1) Open the lightbox maker within MakerLab

 

2) Upload image of your choice. 

 

3) Adjust the form if necessary. You can get rid of the backgrounds but I recommend keeping it. Crop to 1:1, if the upload is not already.

 

4) Check result after calculation has been performed.

 

5) Adjust the colors. You can start adjusting slightly but I would recommend keeping all options in order to fine tune in the next step.

 

6) Select the main colors you want to use (black and white in the example) and start selecting the individual areas for the best fit. Dont overengineer it. Small color changes can be done by clicking on the areas on the displayed overview.

 

7) Set size to 55x55mm.

 

8) Change box depth to 20mm and fram width to 1mm, structure type to “reversed” and side color to liking.

 

9) Final checks before export

 

10) Slice and print the front piece. You can add the backpiece to the same print profile or print it seperately.

 

11) Success! You can always revisit the settings made in lightboxmaker and switch the image. Safes some time setting up everything from scratch.

 

Final assembly:

1) Remove support and insert magnets on the bottom piece. I would recommend using a flat screwdriver.

 

2) Clip the album cover into the magnetic bottom piece.

 

3) Optional: Insert the NFC tag and safe the link of the album on it. Apps like “NFC Tools” are pretty simple to use.

 

4) Find the perfect spot in your flat and enjoy you favourite albums physically again.
