The Formetra design approach is my method for creating a consistent aesthetic and practical functionality within the broader Honeycomb Storage Wall system. The principles are as follows:
- Efficient space utilisation by designing with the grid in mind, allowing objects to be secured directly alongside or above and below one another.
- Ensuring robust products, which results in fewer breakages and, consequently, less waste.
- Creating flexibility through designs that can work together or serve a different purpose when rotated.
- Maintaining a consistent aesthetic across designs so that they feel like a cohesive family.
- Minimising print times and filament quantities by designing for printing without supports or unnecessary bulk.
- Testing and refining.
This battery holder adheres to those guidelines by being sturdy enough to hold a Dewalt 5AH battery and can be printed without supports in just 15 minutes, using a total of 6g of filament.
