Lightweight & Fully Extensible
for
Boost MeTo Gridfinity and beyond! ♾️
This is a fully customizable and extensible Gridfinity Drawer system for HomeRacker! It's designed to be lightweight and highly efficient for organizing small items like screws, hardware, and small tools.
The system is incredibly flexible: you can start as small as a 1x2 Grid and go up to a massive 10x10 using the Parametric Model Maker (PMM)!
Get ready to organize your entire workspace. ✨
⚠️ ATTENTION: This drawer is not for you if you need to store heavy equipment or large tools. It is optimized for light items only, maxing out at 2kg per drawer (e.g., screws, small components, hardware). Please distribute heavier loads across multiple drawers.
💡 Need a Heavy-Duty Version? Let me know in the comments! I already have a stronger model design in mind and your feedback helps me prioritize it!
Refer to the video above or the Printing & Assembly Guide in the documentation section.
Let's quickly cover the two most common issues you'll face with this design:
The biggest enemy here is WARPING. Not only does it look bad, but it will severely disrupt—if not completely destroy—the functionality of the drawer slides. Filaments like ABS and ASA are notoriously challenging and can be "warping divas" on this design.
Be especially careful when you max out your printer's build plate (e.g., a 5x6 grid on an A1). Pushing the limits this way leaves zero margin for error, and prints become highly prone to warping on the outer edges.
The second major pitfall is impatience. Peeling your prints off the build plate too early can easily deform the delicate drawer slides, permanently making them unusable.
You must let the parts cool completely for at least 30 minutes before attempting removal. After cooling, you can proceed with the final assembly (see the guide for details).
Bonus: If you're wondering how these cool icons and label plates were created, this video details the "Slicer Trick" for adding graphics to 3D prints without needing CAD skills:
The load capabilities are limited, but the design is resilient. Here's a visual test:
943g 1787g 2677g
These three pictures illustrate the bending progression of a single 5x6 drawer when overloaded. For this test, I simply combined the contents of three separate drawers onto one! As the final picture clearly shows: it bends heavily, but it will not snap thanks to the intelligent printing orientation. This demonstrates the drawer's resilience! 💪
Nevertheless, this model is not intended for heavy-duty applications. Please refrain from loading too much weight to maintain drawer integrity over time.

HomeRacker is a universal modular rack building system I created. It's based on an open specification. Find out more here:

With HomeRacker, you can build all sorts of things—like the Dry Filament Shelf or this 10" Cyberpunk-style rack which you can also find on Makerworld. Check it out!
Besides the customizable Fusion 360 file (find it via Download STL/CAD Files), there's also the showcase model as 3mf file, which contains the EXACT model shown in the profile picture.
A Note on Print Profiles: The attached print profiles are only examples! Their only purpose is to give you a small glimpse of what's possible. I designed HomeRacker so you can build basically ANY combination you fancy. Be creative! 💡
To build a custom drawer you'll need - besides the customizer results - additional connectors and supports, download the free HomeRacker - Core system. Please refer to the Assembly & Printing Guide in the Documentation section.
I created HomeRacker - Core as an open specification. This means anyone can create and share their own extensions and models based on it without any licensing restrictions—all I ask for is attribution!
If you have an idea and the skills to design CAD models, please go ahead! I'd be happy to link and feature your creations in the catalog.
If you're not familiar with CAD design, feel free to pitch your idea to me with as much detail as possible! Let's make it happen.
