Hallgrímskirkja Cathedral – Iceland

The model reflects the unique architecture of the building, including its characteristic vertical lines and monumental façade. Hallgrímskirkja is a Lutheran church located in Reykjavík. The towering structure reaches a height of 74 meters, making it the tallest church in Iceland.
Hallgrímskirkja, the main cathedral of Reykjavík, was built between 1945 and 1986 based on the design of architect Guðjón Samúelsson. The architecture of the church is inspired by Iceland's natural landscapes: the silhouettes of basalt lava columns found in the country’s rock formations formed the basis of the façade design. The vertical, stepped lines of the building create the impression that it rises organically from the ground, stretching smoothly toward the sky.

The church is built in a Neo-Gothic style with influences of modern Expressionism, giving it both monumentality and a natural harmony. The structure is perceived as a sculptural work, with each “piece” of the façade reminiscent of Iceland’s rocky landscapes.
