Introducing the David - Lamp, a monumental piece that reimagines Michelangelo's iconic David head as a layered, functional light sculpture. This ambitious project transforms a classical masterpiece into a modern statement lamp through innovative 3D printing construction.
Design Concept:
The David head is deconstructed into 19 distinct horizontal layers. These layers are precisely stacked during assembly using temporary spacers and an alignment tool, creating gaps that allow light to escape horizontally. An internal shader diffuses light upwards, illuminating the structure from within and creating a dramatic, ethereal glow that highlights the classic form in a completely new way.
Key Features:
Layered Reinterpretation of Michelangelo's David Head.
Unique Light Diffusion through horizontal gaps and internal shader.
Large and Impressive: Designed as a significant statement piece.
Multi-Part Assembly (17 Head Layers + Base + Internal Parts): A rewarding printing and assembly challenge.
Designed for E27 Bulb Compatibility.
Includes Assembly Tools: Spacers and alignment piece provided.
Required Hardware:
E27 Bulb Socket and Cable
E27 LED Bulb (LED recommended to avoid heat issues)
Printing Recommendations:
This project involves printing numerous parts. Patience and attention to detail are key!
David Head Layers (17 pieces):
Material:White or Marble-effect PLA is highly recommended.
Layer Height: 0.16mm - 0.2mm recommended.
Supports: No supports needed if printed flat.
Infill: 8% (or as specified in the .3mf profile).
Base:
Material: Match head or use a contrasting color/material.
Layer Height: 0.2mm.
Infill: 15-20% for stability.
Supports: Check model orientation; likely none needed.
Internal Shader:
Material:Clear or Translucent PETG is ESSENTIAL for light diffusion.
Layer Height: 0.2mm.
Supports: No supports needed.
Spacers, Alignment Piece, Shader Closure Piece:
Material: Any standard PLA/PETG.
Layer Height: 0.2mm.
Supports: No supports needed.
Assembly (Please Read Carefully):
Print ALL parts: 17x Head Layers, 1x Base, 1x Internal Shader, 1x Alignment Piece, 1x Shader Closure Piece, and multiple Spacers (enough for stacking).
Install E27 Socket/Cable: Securely fit your E27 socket and cable assembly into the Base.
Start Stacking: Place the Alignment Piece on a flat surface. Begin stacking the Head Layers one by one, using the temporary Spacers between each layer to maintain the correct gap. The Alignment Piece helps keep everything centered.
Insert Shader: Once all 17 Head Layers are stacked with spacers, carefully insert the printed Internal Shader down through the center opening.
Secure Shader: Place the Shader Closure Piece on top of the Internal Shader to lock it in position relative to the top Head Layer.
CRITICAL STEP - Remove Spacers: Once the Shader and Closure Piece are in place, carefully remove all the temporary Spacers from between the Head Layers. The stacked head should now hold its form.
Place Head on Base: Lift the assembled David Head structure and carefully place it onto the Base, ensuring it sits securely.
Install Bulb: Screw in your E27 LED bulb.
