Description
I was not satisfied with the options for printable darksabers, so here is my attempt to create a small model that is both collapsible and illuminated with a cheap pen light. The darksaber's design varies widely across its appearances in Clone Wars and The Mandalorian, but this model most closely follows The Mandalorian version. I have tried to include the features that are most common in its various designs so that the representation is as faithful as it can reasonable be.
The design was built and tested with the following 3.5 in pen lights (nonaffiliate links):
Other pen lights up to about 16mm diameter may work but have not been tested.
I have included a multicolor print profile for those interested, but please be aware that the multicolor version of the blade is fragile at the color transition. The multicolor blade is a fun novelty, but it will not hold up to play. To get the multicolor blade effect, I recommend printing the blade in white and then painting the middle black. It may also work well with Bambu's gray translucent PETG, but I do not currently have any to test it yet. (Share a picture if you do!)
Please note that the print profiles have some custom painted hybrid tree supports under the middle part of the hilt and the top part of the hilt. In the single color print, there are also tree supports holding open the “lights;” these particular supports are not entirely necessary, but it keeps the lights from drooping and warping during printing.
I recommend 3 walls, 15% gyroid infill, and arachne walls. Use an outer and inner brim on the blades just in case.
