Compact apple watch wind up travel charger holder

Intro

This is an updated, more compact and better working version of the first apple watch wind up travel charger holder. 

 

I needed an easy way to carry an extra apple watch charger in my bag, without tangling the cable. This design holds the puck securely and allows you to wind up the cable inside by spinning the top.

 

Updates 

2025-11-20: I've also made an adaption of this design for the apple magsafe charger.

2025-11-24: There is now a USB-A version of this. I don't have that cable myself, so if you print it it, please let me know that it works right. Thanks.

 

Compatibility 

• There is a version for USB-C and one for USB-A. 
• The winding / unwinding action might be smoother using the newer braided cable version of the Apple watch charger. With the old rubber style cable, it can get stuck more.

Printing instructions

• Prints without supports. If you have decent bed adhesion, there's no need for a brim.

Assembly

1. Feed the USB-C plug through the top piece, and snap the puck into place.
2. Now feed the plug through the opening in the bottom piece (from the inside going out)
3. Fit the small rod into the underside of the top piece
4. Fit the drum/rod thickener over the rod, with the cavity facing down.
5. Snap the top piece to the bottom piece
6. Optional: use a tiny drop of lubrication oil (like the one that comes with the bambu printers) on the friction areas (see image)

If you need to disassemble the pieces again, squeezing the bottom piece on either side of the opening makes this easier. Use a pointy object to push the charging puck through the small circular hole. 

How to use

To wind up:

Hold the bottom piece and twist the top.

 

To unwind: 

Hold the bottom piece and pull the cable.
