FINALLY!!!

I've modified the stock gears in both the Cyberbrick Forklift and Truck to accept the most common metal geared 9gram micro servo the MG90S.

No offence to Bambu Lab or the designer of the models but the stock servos from the kits just didn't meet my expectations. I was genuinely at a loss because I committed to making each member of my family (myself included) a Cyberbrick model a total of 5! However the plastic geared stock servos were laughable compared to what we were used to in the RC Vehicles world.

These gears have the horn integrated, it's a one piece print! My forklift is genuinely powerful now! It picked up a nearly solid brass padlock like it was nothing, the lock weighs just over 260 Grams!!!

I have some notes you should be aware of before you print and use my design…

  1. Use at your own risk, I do not accept any liability for you choosing to modify your own model with the aforementioned gear or servo, I also cannot guarantee any performance, you may not achieve the same results as there are so many external factors. You are solely responsible if you damage your model/electronics. I don't know if there's a warranty on anything in the kit but it's safe to assume that using stuff they haven't explicitly made or provided will void it.
  2. INSTALL IT AND THEN UNINSTALL IT ON THE SERVO (OUTSIDE OF THE ASSEMBLY) FIRST TO MAKE IT EASIER TO INSTALL LATER IN LOCATION (THIS SORT OF PREPS/CUTS THE TEETH OF THE GEAR).
  3. Leave the print settings as they are, use a smooth pei bed, a 0.2mm Nozzle and whatever filament you'd like (I used Red and Grey Blue PLA Basic from Bambu Lab so it's easier to see in the picture), make sure your filament is dry, your build plate is freshly washed with dish soap as per the Bambu Lab wiki and let your printer do all it's calibration stuff with this print (accuracy is crucial).
  4. I bought a handful of different servo's from Amazon.ca at roughly $7 Canadian a piece, they all listed themselves as Metal Geared 9 Gram Micro Servos and or MG90S, they need to rotate 360 for the Forklift and 180 for the Truck. Check to make sure the wire will be long enough!
  5. The real trick to getting everything right is finessing the tension on the strings, the tightness of the screws, and the smoothness of the plastic on plastic moving joints.
  6. I used the included hex driver from the kits to remove the support by inserting it in the front of the gear and punching the support out the back, it should come out cleanly.
  7. Not necessary but in the second to last picture you'll see I added my own 4700uF 16v Low ESR Electrolytic Capacitor, this solves another problem I had were using both drive motors and the stock or upgraded servo at full throttle underload caused the device to bog down or brown out, this use case is exactly what “Glitch Busters” are for in hobby grade remote control vehicles. Same sentiment from note #1 applies here also if you don't understand what it's doing or how it's doing it, it's safe to assume you should not be doing it.

I really hope this lands well with you all as it was really exciting for me. I spent about four and a half hours designing, printing, revising, re-slicing, testing and taking pictures before posting it, I'm not good at Cad by any means so for something like this to work so well for me was incredibly satisfying. If you have any issues, comments, feedback, criticism or words of encouragement please let me know in the comments below! I'll be watching with a giddy smile on my face as what feels like my most functional model gets uploaded.

Don't forget to like, boost, and rate the model/print profile if your happy with it, I'd be overjoyed if you posted pictures or videos of your heaviest lifts in the comments!

Boost MeMight sound a little cheesy but I keep my notifications on for this kind of thing because it's nice to see people engaging with my project :)
