F2 AMS Locking Lever Replacement + Bonus version

 

F2 (read: "Fully Functional") Locking Levers for Bambu AMS are intended as a replacement or improvement of existing ones. Designed and tested for AMS 2 Pro (I just assume it should also work for older AMS models, but I haven't tested it).

 

Some time ago, one locking lever on my AMS 2 Pro broke. Here on MW, I looked for a model to replace it. Unfortunately, all the ones I've found were designed so weak that the rotating pin broke after just a few uses - one didn't even survive being removed from the building plate (???!!!) 

If there is a really good, robust design here somewhere, then I apologize, but I didn't find it.

 

 

So … in the end, I designed my own model, which is more robust and should withstand daily use without any problems. 

That why I call it “F2 = Fully Functional” ... the pin is not divided into two weak halves (as in other models), but has three parts, all of which are significantly more robust. It may be a little harder to insert into the hole, but then it will work better and it will definitely last much longer.

 

There are three versions available. 

  • Two are more or less copies of the original lever and differ ONLY in a small design detail – a groove around the main body.
  • The third version is called "Bonus" – it has the same function as the previous ones, but has an enlarged body for easier handling.

The main and the most important detail – the "rotating" pin – is the same for all three versions. 

Choose the one you like best.


 

Material - tested on both PLA and PETG. Both are OK (I was using PLA and PLA Tough during testing, now I have PETG one). Of course, "higher" materials such as Nylon will be even more durable, but (imho) that is probably unnecessary. 
BTW: TPU for AMS could be pretty interesting choice.

 

 

Size – for the lever to work properly, the pin must fit snugly in the AMS hole. Only then will it hold reliably and provide appropriate resistance when turning. If it is too loose, it is bad, and if it cannot be inserted into the hole at all, it is obviously bad, too :-)

 

The correct size is a bit of a problem given the different materials, different printers, and minor deviations that can occur even in the AMS itself. Therefore, all versions are available in three sizes - they differ ONLY in the size of the rotating PIN (the differences are in the order of tenths of a millimeter).

 

  • Normal version - standard size (tested on my AMS and used here)
  • Enlarged and Reduced version - have a PIN enlarged/reduced by 0.2 mm compared to the normal version

 

Tip: If neither size "fits" you perfectly, you can adjust the model to the required size yourself in the Slicer. Just use the SCALE function and enlarge/reduce the model by a few percent. You can rescale whole model - it's just a pin, what's matter here - the changes in size of the other parts are so small that they are actually irrelevant.

 

  • FYI: Rescaling to 103% adds approximately +0.18 mm to the pin diameter. Conversely, rescaling to 97% reduces the pin diameter by 0.18 mm. Use these numbers to guide you to achieve perfect size for your needs.

 

Printing: Use my print profile, if possible. Otherwise, 0.16mm High Quality, Seam Random, 100 Walls, Slow Speed, NO support needed. Brim for Bonus version is smart idea …

 

I hope that the replacement Locking Lever will work reliably for a long time, so you can focus on finding more interesting models here on MakerWorld :-)

 

BTW - if you have older AMS and print this Lever, let us know if it fits, too. Personally I don 't care too much, but other folks may be interested .. Appreciate in advance …
