Description
As a high school student preparing for university, I’ve gone through countless pencil cases over the years — from Muji hard shells to simple cloth bags — and every single one seemed to have its own problems.
The Muji hard cases, for example, have hinges that are weak and easy to break, forcing me to spend money replacing them every few weeks. When I switched to cloth cases, they were initially more durable, but after weeks of use, they quickly became dirty, and the fabric began to fray, resulting in a messy and worn appearance.
Around this time, I had just started learning Fusion 360, and a thought came to me:
What if I made my own pencil case?
Instead of wasting money on store-bought ones that never last, I could design something that actually fits my needs. Maybe people with more experience would think my idea was simple or low-effort, but at that moment, I was driven by one thought — every 3D-printed item I’d seen looked smarter, cleaner, and more durable than what’s sold in retail.
That’s how I came up with the Honey Case — a sleek, modern 3D-printed pencil case designed with a honeycomb pattern for both lightness and resistance to dirt buildup. Its 90-degree lid allows it to open into a convenient tray-like holder, keeping pens, pencils, and tools neatly organized while you work.
The structure features a lightweight hexagonal grid that minimizes print time while maintaining strong durability. It’s ideal for students, artists, engineers, or anyone who wants a minimalist and portable tray-style pencil case.
In the end, this design solved all my previous problems — now I don’t need to buy a new case ever again!
If you’ve already printed the case, you might notice that it’s labelled “V2.” You may wonder why?
I call it V2 because it marks my learning progress in design. The first version (V1) only had a single-hinge structure, but after research, testing, and adjustments, I developed V2 — a much more stable and functional version. I see this as a success milestone, representing how much I’ve learned and grown through this project.
You: What is ZYYY, and can I remove it?
Me: What, you don't like logos?
Well, if you want to request an icon or a different image embedded on the front, you can; just give me a few weeks.
(I don't have time for this, MY CHEM 12 GRADE IS NOT COOKING RIGHT NOW🫡!)
