Description
After more than 10 prototypes, this is the Little Nightmares Diorama, a model that took 1 ½ months to design and model and one of my greatest achievements in 3D Modeling. It has been a dream of mine for 2 years to see this model in its full form in my hands. This model deepened my passion for 3D Modeling and is majority of the reason why I got into 3D Printing, wanting to bring my design to life. This model is a tank with at least 7 colors needed in one layer; therefore, my A1 combo is only capable of printing out the background of my diorama. The model allows the person to connect and disconnect the base and background together (be careful since I have tested the feature but not with the full model). The diorama features Mono (one of the main characters) holding a flashlight and key, two nomes, and the TV at the base of the diorama. In the background, two of Six's lighters, two sausages, and Six's music box. With the H2C, I am able to print out the base of the model, bringing the model to its full form. With this model, not only am I able to fulfill my dream but also the dreams of others who would like a diorama model of the Little Nightmares franchise.
Other Testing
The disconnect and connect feature took some ample testing to see what dimensions for the hole and bar had to be to allow easy connecting and disconnecting. I had to connect and disconnect numerous times for each test to get “impurities shaven off" so that way it became smooth, but do this carefully.
Materials needed that is not automatically part of the “Bill of Materials”
SUNLU Beige
OVERTURE Cardboard (but can be replaced by PLA Basic Matte Latte Brown)
Plates
1-5 are all prototypes. Plates 6 and 7 are the plates that I want to print out with the H2C as it is able use 7 colors at a time, so I would like to take advantage of that.
Plate 1: Is the diorama w/o the reinforced/fixed background and a single colored coat for Mono who is carrying a flashlight that is on (lens color is white) The base does not have the updated version of the disconnect-connect ability
Plate 2: Plate 1 but Mono is carrying a flashlight that is off (lens color is gray), still does not have the updated version of the disconnect-connect ability
Plate 3: Background w/o the reinforcing and updated version of the disconnect-connect ability
Plate 4: Same as Plate 1
Plate 5: Same as Plate 1 but with the disconnect-connect ability. Can be considered the same as Plate 6 w/o the dual colored coat
Plate 6: The new base with the updated disconnect-connect ability (A new plate may be added for those without the 7 color feature from the H2C, so colors will look weird because users need to swap out colors during pauses)
Plate 7: The new background with the disconnect-connect ability and new updates I said above about strengthenig the music box handle and lighter lids.
Slicing Plan (may be edited)
Pre-load
-Put in black, grey (flashlight), beige, dark grey (flashlight)
Base (Slicing)
-Add Pause when Black base is done, replace with sunflower yellow
-Add Pause when Beige feet is almost finised (moving onto brown
for cloak), replace SUNLU beige with Brown (if possible)
-When Beige is finished, replace SUNLU beige with black
-When key is finished, replace sunflower yellow with cocoa brown (shirt)
-After flashlight is finished, replace with red
-Add pause when button column is finished, replace with OVERTURE cardboard/PLA Matte Latte Brown
Pre-load
-Put in black, dark grey, white, red
Background (Slicing)
-Put in pause before flames are printed, replace white/red with
sunflower yellow
Problems and Solution
Because of the crazy print time and material consumption, I have only printed the background one time. From this one print, I encountered two problems: the music box handle and the lighter lids easily broke off due to having to break off the tree supports. I solved this by super gluing the parts back to where they belong. As a solution, I scaled the diameter of the handle to increase its strength. For the lighter lids, I put them closer into the lighter so they won't break off so easily. Soon as I get more material, I am able to test if my solutions worked for these two problems. Another solution could be to orient the background differently since I oriented it standing up from its two feet. The alternate way would be placing it on its back with its two feet pointing up.
