The Story Behind the Biscuit

I designed this model for my daughter. She loves hosting tea parties for her collection of well-loved bears and dolls, but her play food set was missing a classic British biscuit. I set out to create a Jammy Dodger that was as close to the real thing as possible, right down to the texture of the Jam filling.

The project was a huge success... maybe too much of a success. When I presented the finished, glued-together biscuit to her, she promptly tried to dunk it in her toy teacup before trying to take a bite. The ensuing disappointment was proof that the model had passed the ultimate test! Now her bears can enjoy a proper biscuit, and hopefully, your little ones can too.

Key Features

  • Life-Sized & Realistic: Scaled to be almost identical to the real biscuit.
  • Multi-Part Design: Three separate parts (2x biscuit halves, 1x Jam filling) for easy printing in different colours. No multi-material unit (MMU/AMS) required!
  • High-Detail Biscuit Halves: Designed for a low layer height to capture all the iconic details and lettering.
  • Textured Cream Filling: The cream part is designed to be printed with a "fuzzy skin" texture, perfectly mimicking the look of the real thing.
  • Easy Assembly: The parts are designed to fit together perfectly with a dab of superglue.

Print Settings

I printed this on my Bambu Lab printer, but these settings should be applicable to any well-calibrated machine.

Biscuit Halves (Print 2)

  • Printer: Bambu Lab P1S (or any FDM printer)
  • Material: Bambu PLA Basic - Brown (any biscuit-coloured PLA will work)
  • Layer Height: 0.10 mm (This is important for the detail on the face!)
  • Infill: 15%
  • Supports: No
  • Orientation: Print with the detailed face pointing upwards.

Cream Filling (Print 1)

  • Material: Any cream, white, or off-white PLA.
  • Layer Height: 0.20 mm (Detail is less critical here).
  • Infill: 15%
  • Supports: No
  • Special Instructions: This is the secret sauce! In your slicer (Bambu Studio, PrusaSlicer, Cura), enable the "Fuzzy Skin" setting. I used the default settings, and it came out perfectly. This will give the part that signature textured look.
    • Where to find it in Bambu Studio/PrusaSlicer: Print Settings > Quality > Fuzzy Skin > Select "Outside walls".

Assembly

Assembly is incredibly simple:

  1. Make sure your three parts are clean and free of any printing artifacts.
  2. Take one of the biscuit halves and apply a small amount of superglue (cyanoacrylate) to its flat inner face.
  3. Carefully place the cream filling onto the glue, ensuring it's aligned. The cream part is designed to be slightly smaller to give you that perfect "squished out" look.
  4. Apply superglue to the top of the cream filling.
  5. Place the second biscuit half on top and press firmly for 30-60 seconds.
  6. Let it cure completely.

Disclaimer: This is a toy and is NOT EDIBLE. Please supervise young children when they are playing with it.
