Description

Relic Rush is a fast-paced, family-friendly board game filled with interactivity, movement, and real-time chaos. Because of the generous support of the project bakers, I've been able to devote time to building this project that features:

  • Real-time play: Everyone takes their turns at once.
  • Interactive traps: Remote-controlled chaos keeps everyone guessing.
  • Made for makers: Print it, build it, and even design your own game modes.

See it in Action

Cross shaky bridges, dodge spikes, survive avalanches, and outrun lava rivers - all triggered by the remote control!

Assembly Process

This is a big project - I hope you’ll enjoy putting it together! I would allow 4-5 hours for assembly once all of the parts are printed.

  • To make it digestible, the instructions have you assemble the 8 main parts individually and then put them together. This can make it easier to complete part of the process, step away and come back to it later.
  • The PDF attached in the documents section of this page includes step-by step instructions & each step links to the relevant portion of the full assembly video - just click “Watch Step” in the lower, right corner of each page.

Additional Guides

In addition to the assembly guides, please be sure to also check out the other files available. These files are continually updated based on user feedback.

  • Rules: these are the ‘base’ rules for the game. This default mode is a cooperative race to save enough relics before too many disasters are triggered. A community German translation is available here.
  • Printing & Post-Processing Guide: contains details about filaments along with total usage across single/multi-color and single/multi-nozzle devices along with tips for easier printing and customizing your game.
  • Creation Kit: this is split into a PDF and an accompanying ZIP and includes tutorials and raw files so that you can create your own expansions and rule sets for the game.

Choose Your Version

There are two versions of this project:

  • The CyberBrick version is remote controlled with servos and motors for the traps.
    • This is the default version of the project but the cost of components is higher due to the servos, motors & CyberBrick electronics.
    • You can order the components for this version using the Bill of Materials.
  • The Wired version is not remote-controlled but still uses motors and LEDs for the river and lava flows.
    • The Bridge, Spike, Stair & Rotating Wall Traps are all manually operated using buttons, levers and by just rotating them with your fingers.
    • The timer for this version is not automatic - you can use your phone to set timers for when disasters should be triggered or use this free phone app to automatically track the timers.
    • This version requires fewer electronic components (saving on the total cost). You can find a list in the Components section.
    • You will need to print a few small extra parts. Differences in assembly process are noted in the instructions.

All of the big parts are compatible with both versions. If you’d like, you could start with the Wired version and later upgrade to the CyberBrick version. Here's what the differences look like in action:

Hardware Components

The components for this project are available as kits from Maker's Supply. When ordering, be sure to select the version of the kit you're interested in:

For reference, here's a comparison of the components needed for each version:

Optional Laser Edition

This entirely optional additional allows you to cut a wooden face for the remote and a stackable storage box for the game components.

  • These can be cut and engraved using the 10W laser and use a single sheet of Walnut plywood (and optionally some cork) for the storage container. Additionally, you can cut out wood versions of the player ability cards. You can check it out here.
  • If you don't have a laser cutter, 3D-printable versions of the storage box lid and component trays are provided.

Coming Soon

I'm exited to get this project into your hands but there will be some additional items coming over the next few months including:

  • Additional Game Mode
  • 2 Mini Expansions

Release Notes

  • 2/26/26: Updated the Bill of Materials to use the new kit version of the project from Maker's Supply
    • Components are identical to the previous version but the kit makes them easier to order
    • Choose between the CyberBrick and ‘Wired’ versions of the project
  • 1/8/26
    • Controller profile update to reduce bridge speed and to limit the bridge trap to a 20% chance to activate.
    • Rules & Creation Kit documents updated.
    • Print Profile 3 updated with experimental alternates for the Timer gears along with customizable versions of the controller labels.
  • 12/26/25
    • New phone app for the Wired version.
    • Creation Kit files added for users to create custom expansions and rule sets.
    • Controller fixes: be sure to update your desktop/phone apps, firmware and the project configuration for these bug fixes.
    • Assembly Guide and Rules updates including notes about customizing movement for servos & parts checklists by section.
  • 12/23/25: small update to correct the rotation of the bridge slats in the assembly instructions as well as changing the recommendation for the Wired version to use 200mm SH1.0 wires for easier assembly.
  • 12/19/25
    • Controller configuration updated to resolve issues and improve reliability of bridge and wall traps. Be sure your firmware is up-to-date!
    • Profiles now include 5 copies of player dice
    • Assembly guide updated based on user feedback
  • 12/16/25
    • Assembly Instructions
      • In each section, added a list of the components used for assembly to the title page.
      • Added an additional image showing the interior wiring of the controller with labels.
      • Clarification for the alignment of the bridge magnet.
      • Added a tip for adjusting the length of the bridge to fit (by loosening the nylon cord)
      • New tip for instances where the bridge isn't releasing (using a leftover brass rod from the Bill of Materials)
      • Added a tip for those who printed the Early Access files which had a couple of pip slots that were shallower than intended
      • Added clarifications on the CyberBrick pairing process
    • Rules
      • Added an appendix page for optional 'house rules'. I'll update this as users share their modifications so that other users can adjust the gameplay for their groups.
      • Clarified the starting position for player pawns (just off the game board by the small ladder)
      • Noted that LEDs will not automatically activate when the board is powered on. Given how CyberBrick works, you will need to press a button on the remote for the lights to activate & they'll stay on from that point forward.
      • Added a few tips for when the timer column is difficult to press down.
      • A few small clarifications on movement and action rules.
    • Models
