Description
This is a utility box for the Ubiquiti USW-Flex and a PoE to USB adapter. It's a very specific build for my specific requirements. It may help you, it may not. Either way, I've included the STEP files for you to modify to fit your needs*.
My very old house is extremely difficult to wire so I have one cat-6 exiting an eave 30 feet off the ground using an existing hole for the old coax. It feeds a USW-Flex which feeds a PoE to USB adapter that connects the G4 Instant. I wanted a wired solution to get around wireless issues to this spot and conceal the equipment as much as possible while providing some protection from the elements. The box mounts via rails on top to a custom bracket that sets the box back under a slight overhang under the trim.
There are probably better ways to do this, but this is what I came up with. I designed and 3D printed a utility box that fits the Flex and the PoE adapter with a little extra room for cable management and getting the gear in and out. It's roughly based on the Flex POE box that Ubiquiti sells hence the holes for ethernet. Unused holes are blocked with covers (not shown) and there are two holes for drainage that I covered with screen mesh to keep insects out. The latch is 3D printed but the hinge uses some pins I picked up at the hardware store. The holes are 4.9mm or 0.19". It's printed in PETG with a 0.6mm nozzle. If I need to make revisions, I'll consider ASA or even ABS in the future.
