This model is a freestanding pair of pants with shoes. It was originally designed to fit an Elf as shown, but the style is intentionally generic, making it useful for a variety of display and creative projects beyond just elves.
Â
The design is very well balanced and stable, which allows the Elf to stand securely and even bend forward into fun poses without tipping over. This makes it especially useful for dynamic scenes rather than just static displays.
Â
The color breaks are designed to occur at specific layer heights, which allows it to print efficiently on multi-color machines without unnecessary color changes. It can also be printed on single-color machines by setting filament-change pauses at the appropriate layers in your slicer.
Â
The model is fully hollow, making it lightweight and easy to scale—either uniformly or non-uniformly. A modifier cube is included to enforce no top layers, and infill is disabled so the interior remains completely hollow at any scale. The wall count is locked at three walls to prevent the walls from becoming too thin when scaled down or overly thick when scaled up.
Â
Fitting the Elf legs into the pants is straightforward. I didn’t have much trouble inserting them, but if needed, you can optionally drill small holes in the bottoms of the shoes to help pull the legs down more easily.
Â
No supports are required for printing. I’m excited to see how people use these and what color combinations you come up with.
