Amazon Filament Storage Container Magnetic Labels

Overview

This project is a modular magnetic label system designed specifically for Amazon UK 2.5 L filament storage tubs. It allows you to clearly label each tub with interchangeable filament name plates (PLA, PETG, ABS, Nylon, etc.) while keeping everything secure, clean, and easily updatable.

 

The system is fully 3D printed and consists of:

• A Baseplate that is permanently mounted to the container tub
• Magnetic faceplates that display filament names
• A drilling / puncturing jig to ensure perfect alignment during installation

Once installed, filament labels can be swapped instantly using magnets—no screws, no tape, and no mess.

 

How the System Works

1️⃣ Baseplate (Permanent Mount)

• The baseplate is mechanically fixed to the storage tub using M3 button head screws.
• Heat-set M3 threaded inserts are installed into the printed baseplate for strength and repeatability.
• The baseplate contains embedded 6 mm × 3 mm magnets, flush with the surface.

This creates a strong, permanent mounting point on each tub.

 

Please duplicate / clone as many as these as you want depending on how many tubs you have.

2️⃣ Magnetic Faceplates (Swappable Labels)

• Faceplates are printed separately and contain opposing magnets.
• Each faceplate has an Embossed filament name (e.g. PLA, PETG, ASA, TPU, etc.).
• The magnets snap the faceplate onto the baseplate, holding it securely while allowing easy removal.

Perfect if you reuse tubs or frequently change filament types.

 

Please duplicate / clone as many as these as you want depending on how many tubs you have. Clone more PLA labels if you have more PLA etc etc

 

3️⃣ Puncturing / Drilling Jig (Alignment Tool)

• Included in the download is a puncturing jig.
• This jig is to be used to press onto the tub and marks the exact drill hole locations needed for perfect baseplate alignment.
• Ensures consistent placement across all tubs with no measuring required.

Highly recommended for clean, repeatable installs.

Assembly Instructions

1. Print the baseplate, faceplates, and puncturing jig. The download includes 1 of each filament type I used, but feel free to clone and copy/edit the text within the labels to suit your desired filament needs such as Nylon etc.
2. Heat-set the M3 threaded inserts into the baseplate
3. Press-fit or glue the magnets into both baseplate and faceplates. The magnets are designed to be a tight fit so please use pliers to press them in.
   • ⚠️ Double-check magnet polarity before installation
4. Use the puncturing jig to mark hole locations on the tub
5. Drill holes in the tub with a 3.5mm or 4mm drill bit
6. Secure the baseplate using M3 button head screws
7. Snap the desired filament faceplate into place

 

Customisation

• Create your own faceplates with custom filament names or colours
• Scale text or add icons for quick visual identification
• Reprint faceplates only—no need to remove the baseplate
