Universal Parametric Phone Holder (AMPS 30x38mm)

This phone holder is designed for a loose fit, for environments where a phone might be picked up and used by a car passenger rather than being rigidly mounted for handsfree use by the driver.  This allows a passenger to easily stow their phone in a convenient and viewable spot while still being able to quickly grab it for handheld use. The holder does not clamp the phone and does not require precise insertion.

The backplate uses the AMPS 30 × 38 mm hole pattern, which is widely used by commercial and consumer mounting accessories (phone mounts, GPS mounts, brackets, etc.).  I have also published  17 mm ball and socket AMPS-based components that can be combined with this holder using M4 hardware to create an adjustable swivel mount: 17mm AMPS Socket Adapter, 17mm AMPS Ball Adapter.  You will be able to find similar adapters for other ball sizes, allowing this holder to be adapted to quite a few different car mount accessories.  

Using this holder in combination with the 17mm AMPS Socket Adapter, you can attach this holder to a suction mount such as this or this, this, or any other car mounting solution that uses a 17mm ball.  The pictures above show some examples using AMPS socket and ball adapters. 

Parametric Settings

For the intended loose fit, enter width and depth values larger than the actual phone dimensions. The model does not automatically add padding or clearance.  Give enough clearance to allow easy, friction-free placement and removal of the phone.

• plate_height_mm – Backplate height; keep below rear camera bumps (default = 100mm)
• width_between_arms_mm – Width between retaining arms (minimum 72, default = 80)
• device_depth_mm – Phone thickness including case (default = 14)
• retainer_lip_mm – Inward extension of retaining lips (default = 5)

Printing Notes

• Prints at 45° angle.
• Includes built-in supports for lower compound curves
• Additional, easily-removed slicer-generated supports are used in the published print profiles
