Description
Headset adapter that enables you to use the top strap for the Bigscreen Beyond 2 in a front-to-back orientation (down the center of your head) instead of side-to-side, providing an experience more like the majority of VR head straps on the market. I've only tested this with the BSB2, but it will probably also fit the BSB1 since the dimensions are almost identical.
This adapter hooks into the side posts of the BSB2, and then provides new side posts for other accessories to attach to. This ensures that it should be compatible with any headstrap setup that you are already using. In particular I've tested it with both the official BSB Audio Strap (loop one end around the bar at the back) and the Vive DAS (when using these popular printed adapters). It technically works with the soft strap as well, but in practice it tends to pull the back of the strap up your head rather than pulling up the headset.
The headset adapter comes in two version, ones with hooks and one without. The hooks can be used to hang the headset on a wall mount regardless of what other headstrap solution you are using. I'm still working on finalizing a wall mount design that will use these hooks, you can follow me if you want to be notified when that gets published.
Remove the supports and ensure you remove any excess support plastic still sticking to the model, especially on the inside edges. This is critical for a proper attachment to the headset.
Dry-fit the loop insert into the main adapter piece first to ensure it printed properly and fits.
Apply 4 tiny drops of superglue both sides of both tabs on the loop insert, then insert it into the main adapter piece. Do NOT do this step while the adapter is attached to your headset. Superglue releases fumes as it dries, and those fumes may chemically discolor the plastic on your headset.
Note that one side of the loop insert is slightly rounded, for best results (minimizing strap wear) ensure this side is facing towards the front of the headset.
Slide the adapter onto the headset's side posts one at a time, just like you would with any other accessory. Note that the the adapter will probably require a fair amount of force to fully clip in, more than is required for Bigscreen's first-party accessories. You will hear and feel a distinct snap when it's fully inserted.
When installing or removing another accessory onto the side posts of the printed adapter, orient the headset at about 45 degrees while engaging the clips. Due to the printed orientation it's easier to insert and remove things at this angle.
