Welcome to my Tiny Lamp Project V2

(No AI was used to design the lamp or write up the description below)

Boost MeThis project took a fair amount of iteration and prototyping, particularly around the base to get the locking mechanism right. Your boost is greatly appreciated :)

You can find my V1 project here. It's not better, its just different.

This design came from wanting a compact desk lamp that felt cozy and small. The lamp stands approximately 125mm high and 80mm wide, around the same size of a soda can, making it suitable any desk, shelf, or bedside table without take up much space. This lamp is designed to work with the Ikea STRÅLA cord set.

Following the same theme of V1, the lamp utilises a sine wave pattern, with a much shorter base. Due to the form of the Ikea Strala bulb set, had to do some MacGyvering to fit it all in, and I couldn't be happier with how it turned out - but note that you'll need to use a short bulb for this one otherwise it make poke through the top (see example below).

It comes in three parts (on two print beds):

  • The top - vase mode print with a beautiful sine wave pattern
  • The base - bottom part that holds the Ikea Strala lamp cord
  • Clip - this clips the cable to the bottom of the vase

I've prioritised print quality for this one, so the print can take upwards of 8 hours total to print, but its totally worth the wait.

To assemble:

  1. Slot the ikea STRÅLA lamp cord set into the base, the tolerance is tight so you may need to screw it into the base.
  2. Use the clip to clip the cord to the base (this one's optional, but keeps the cord secured)
  3. The top assembly has a simple press-and-turn fitting to secure it to the base, line up the top and bottom and twist 90 degrees clockwise to secure.

thanks for your support!
