Description

This is a screw-less case for the NVIDIA Jetson Orin Nano Developer Kit, with front IO access and plenty of airflow for cooling.

Update (CSI Camera Cable Cutout):

I have added a new chassis with a CSI cable cutout, due to the slide-on nature of the design, I provided a ‘gap filler’ so it looks like there is only the cutout for the CSI camera ports:

NOTE: The new print profile includes the V2 Reap Cap, as it is slightly easier to release with the new release points. This new V2 Rear Cap works with both the original chassis and the new CSI chassis.

Installation

To install please slide the Jetson into the main chassis so that it slides nicely under the alignment rails as shown below, making sure to push it all the way to the IO shield. Then be sure to push the rear end cap as shown in the second photo below.

 

Releasing the end cap can be done with the provided cutouts on the top and sides of the end cap. By design, releasing should not be super difficult, and can be done with moderate force.

Please keep in mind that depending on your printer and filament, it may be tighter than by design, if this is the case your easiest course of action is to attach and detach the rear end cap several times to loosen the grip.

 

Filaments

Please do not use low-quality filament or filament with poor layer adhesion properties, as this will lead to breakages later on. Higher quality PLA such as Bambu PLA Basic is good enough (however if you run the Jetson super hot it may warp), in this design I used PETG-CF.

 

Slicing/Printing

Please use the included print profile to get the best quality, as that one was created from the raw CAD files that turn the lofts into smooth arc commands. If you use the .stl files, you will get an unsightly low-quality triangle approximation of the lofts on the rear of the design.

 

Note: If you are also printing with PETG on a P1S like I was, the end cap may have some defects near the top of the print, what helped me was removing the top glass panel, slowing down outer wall speeds, and making sure it is set to inner/outer order for overhangs, although the top glass panel was probably the best solution to reduce heat soak.

 

Design

In this design I aimed to make it look good, have good cooling, as well as a robust frame using minimal material.

A lot of cases I tried for the Jetson had an IO shield that always broke, so I made sure to design this one so it prints in a stronger orientation, which also gives a nice textured PEI pattern on the IO shield. Consequentially, this also inspired me to make a slide-able sleeve like case. For the cooling system I was inspired by the duct design of this case design as seen here, which made it also look much nicer and less ‘blocky.'

Of course for the cooling holes, I had to make them hexagons, they take long to print but I like the aesthetic.

This was a fun case to design, and in the future I will add CSI camera port functionality, and possibly GPIO if there is enough clearance.
