Description

This is a clean, modern knife block that I designed to solve a handful of frustrations I’ve always had with the typical “included with the set” knife blocks.

Most stock blocks are sized for one very specific knife set and don’t age well as your collection changes. This design is more flexible and more intentional.

Key design features:

  • Holds more than one specific knife set – you’re not locked into whatever came in the box originally.
  • Dedicated slots for kitchen shears and a honing steel/sharpener so everything lives in one place.
  • More interesting visual design than the very plain blocks that usually come with knife sets.
  • Vertical knife orientation – it does sit taller and may not fit under some cabinets, but it takes up less counter space front-to-back while holding more knives.
  • Tall enough for longer slicers and chef knives – and you can always add feet or a riser if you want even more clearance.
  • Far cheaper to print than buying an aftermarket universal knife block.
  • Customizable and scalable if you’re comfortable in a slicer or CAD and want to tune slot size, height, etc.

I’ve used a variation of this same design in my own kitchen for about 10 years and we do a lot of cooking and cutting. It’s held up great – the only major change I made over time was increasing the height to better fit longer knives.

At the default scale, the print is intentionally tuned to use just under one full 1 kg roll of filament. The base is pocketed so you don’t have to do a mid-print roll swap, and it leaves a small buffer so you’re not sweating the last couple of grams at the end of the job.

Print it how you like, scale it to your own setup, and make your knife storage actually match your knives instead of a preset bundle.
