Description

Stop searching for "almost the right size" and stop scaling STLs!
We’ve all been there: you find a beautiful 3D model of a pot, but it doesn't fit your specific plant or windowsill.

The Problem with Scaling: If you simply scale an STL down, the walls become paper-thin and fragile. If you scale it up, they become unnecessarily thick and wasteful.

The Problem with Health: Many models look good but ignore plant biology. Poor drainage or lack of airflow leads to root rot and unhappy plants.

I created this generator to solve these problems once and for all. Now you can generate the exact planter you need, with perfect wall thickness and a professional drainage system, regardless of the size.

⚠️ Experimental Model: This generator is a new project! I have tested it thoroughly, but since it allows for infinite variations, unexpected results can happen. If you encounter any geometry errors, bugs, or have suggestions for improvement, please leave a comment. Your feedback is crucial to making this tool perfect for everyone!

🛠️ User Guide: How to Customize

Here is a quick explanation of the settings you will find in the Customizer:

👀 Preview & Export

  • Show Assembled: Check this to see how the pot sits inside the saucer. Important: Uncheck this before exporting so the parts lay flat on the print bed.
  • Show Slice: Cuts the model in half. Use this to inspect the wall thickness and internal slope before printing.
  • Export Mode: Set this to "Both" to generate a full plate, or select "Pot Only" / "Saucer Only" if you want to save separate STL files for each part.

📏 Dimensions

  • Pot Height: The vertical height of the pot itself (excluding the saucer).
  • Diameter: The outer diameter of the pot (since the shape is cylindrical, the width is uniform).
  • Wall: Thickness of the plastic shell. 1.5mm–2.0mm is usually a sweet spot for small, sturdy pots.
  • Saucer Height: The total height of the saucer base.

💧 Drainage

  • Hole Count & Size: Customize the drainage at the bottom of the pot.

✨ Surface Pattern (Decoration)

  • Pattern Enable: Check this box to add decorative vertical ribs to the outside of the pot and saucer.
  • Pattern Count/Width/Depth: Control the density, thickness, and how far the ribs stick out.
  • Pattern Inset: Controls how deep the ribs merge into the main wall (keeps them firmly attached).

🏗️ Saucer Standoffs (Internal Support)

  • These are the ribs inside the saucer that lift the pot up to allow water flow.
  • Standoff Height: This controls the gap between the pot bottom and the saucer floor. Increase this if you want a larger water reservoir.
  • Standoff Count/Width: Adjust the sturdiness of the supports.

⚙️ Technical

  • These are advanced internal calculations and clearances. You generally don't need to touch these unless you are modifying the script logic itself.

✨ Key Features
100% Support-Free: Designed with 45° slopes for clean, predictable printing without wasted material.

Plant Health First: Includes customizable drainage holes and a smart saucer design with built-in ribs. This ensures water drains away and air circulates under the pot, keeping roots healthy.

Perfect Fit: The pot-to-saucer fit is fully adjustable via the "tolerance" setting.

⚙️ What you can customize
Click the green "Customize" button to open the MakerWorld Customizer. You can tweak almost everything:

Dimensions: Set your exact Pot Height, Diameter, and Wall Thickness.

Drainage: Control the Hole Count and Diameter.

Saucer Logic: Adjust standoff count, width, height, and clearances.

View Modes: Switch between Assembled, Exploded view, or a "Cutaway Slice" (cross-section) to inspect the internal geometry before printing.

Export Options: Generate the full set, or just the pot/saucer individually.

🎨 Future Updates
Right now, I’ve included a clean, modern look with optional vertical ribs. If you like this project (please Like, Collect, and post your Makes! 🚀), I will expand this generator into a full suite.

🌱 Filament Recommendations (Material Matters!)

Since this is a functional planter that will be in constant contact with water and soil, material choice is important. I have updated the print profiles to use the recommended PETG materials. Check Bill of Materials

  • 🏆 Best Choice: Bambu PETG HF (High Flow)
    • Why: It prints fast, has a beautiful semi-matte finish that hides layer lines, and is completely waterproof.

  • 💎 Premium Texture: Bambu PETG-CF (Carbon Fiber)
    • Why: Contains carbon fiber for a stunning matte, textured finish that hides layer lines perfectly. Very rigid and professional looking. (Note: Requires a hardened steel nozzle).

  • ❌ PLA is NOT recommended
    • While PLA is easy to print, it is biodegradable and can degrade or leak over time when constantly wet. For a long-lasting pot, stick to PETG.
