Description
Wintertime evokes thoughts of fireplaces, hot cocoa, and big warm blankets. Â One can build the fire, mix the cocoa, but what about the blanket?
Â
With this Chunky Yarn Loom system, one can choose the size of the loom to create one's own blankets. Â Or oversized scarves. Â Or whatever else one can think of. Â Similar looms that can be purchased online can run upwards of $100 USD or more. Â With this system, one can build one configuration, and then resize and replace sections to make it larger or smaller, all dependent on the project being built. Â Make sure to also check out the new version of this that has a tighter weave, the Chunky Yarn Loom System, Tight Weave.
Â
Each section can hold a series of loom posts that serve as the business end of the knitting. Â Each section is attached to other sections with small dowels that hold the sections snug, while preventing them from twisting. Â Optional TPU feet can be printed and added with CA glue (aka superglue) if desired. Â One can customize the colors of the loom posts as markers for the project being built. Â Just add your own filament color and print away!
Â
Loom posts are 25mm in diameter, and are center-to-center 51mm apart (~1in diameter, ~2in center-to-center in freedom units).
Â
Strength modifications have been applied to the loom posts and the connection dowels. Â The dowels are designed to fit snug; one wouldn't want things to just drop out while trying to move the loom system around! Â Also, the dowels are configured to print horizontally to put the direction of stress against the layer grain, not with it (with it == shearing). Â The loom posts themselves are threaded to make a completely integrated connection with the loom base without the need for friction, glue, or fasteners. Â After printing, you may need to work the threads back and forth a few times to clear out any over-extrusion.
Â
Loom posts also have their seams set to Random to make sure they remain as round as possible. Â Setting to Aligned, Back, or Nearest will cause the seams to pile up on one side, making the loom posts difficult to manipulate with yarn.
Â
The middle and right sections need to be printed with supports enabled. Â The connection dowels are also configured to be printed with supports so that they can be printed horizontally. Â The print profiles are configured with a support material for the interface. Â If one wants to print this with a single filament, please adjust the Top Z-distance under Supports from 0.0mm to 0.2mm!! Â Otherwise, the supports will be welded to the model.
Â
The print profiles include a PLA and PETG variant each. Â The different profiles are:
