I needed a tape dispenser that could mount to my fridge for labeling meal prep boxes. I originally came across hellojoe’s design and planned to print it, but after noticing some issues, I decided to create my own improved version.
My design is inspired by hellojoe’s work, but I took new measurements and built the model from scratch. It includes several enhancements:
- Support-free printing: The model prints cleanly without supports.
- Material efficiency: Uses roughly 10% less filament than the reference design.
- Stronger orientation: The geometry is optimized to reduce the chance of breaking along layer lines.
- Marker compatibility: The traditional hanger is replaced with a cup-style holder that accommodates most markers, including those without pocket clips.
- Refined aesthetics: Adjusted proportions and curves for a more polished look, since this will live visibly on my fridge.
- Recoverable magnets: Assuming that magnets were used for mounting this holder, the design allows for easily recovering them for use in other projects
- Improved surface finish: Designed with a layer height of 0.16 mm to minimize visible overhangs without extending print time.
Limitations:
- This model has mounts for only nine magnets, which may offer slightly less holding force depending on your setup.
- This model has cutting teeth only on one side, making it directional. If desired, the model can be mirrored in your slicer software to reverse the cutting direction
Available versions:
The design includes models supporting three tape widths, based on common Scotch Blue sizes:
- 24 mm (0.96”)
- 36 mm (1.41”)
- 48 mm (1.88”)
Mounting options:
Each width variant comes with three mounting methods:
- 10×3 mm magnets (tested with VSKIZ-brand magnets). Depending on tolerances, magnets may need glue or gentle heat to press-fit securely.
- M5 (or similar) countersunk screws.
- Double-sided tape for a non-permanent option.
I hope you find this design useful! Feedback and suggestions for improvement are always welcome.
