To better match the proportions and details of the Lich King set, I have redesigned the Frostmourne from last year's release, while also addressing some shortcomings of the old version. However, this does not mean the old version is entirely obsolete, each has its own strengths.
The new version remains compatible with last year's Frostmourne sword base, but is not compatible withthe old wall mount. You need to print the new wall mount included in this post if you want to hold it on the wall.
Drawing more inspiration from official artwork, the new design is more angular and sharper compared to the old version.
The Full Size version is 120cm long and compatible with A1 and larger printers. The 73% Size version is 88cm long and compatible with A1 mini.
The structure has been completely redesigned with more part separation for coloring. Now, full coloration can be achieved with just a small amount of multi-color printing, eliminating the need for hand painting.
The height of the skull piece has been reduced to minimize layer lines and significantly improve print quality.
The Full Size stiffener comes in LED and non-LED versions.
While the Full Size version supports installation of the Bambulab sound light kit [B-ZC010] + [B-KA010], it is rather wasteful. I recommend sourcing third-party alternatives instead. Please refer to the assembly section below for details.
After installing the LED, the eyes of the skull and the runes on the blade can be illuminated.
About Print Profile:
All pieces have passed the non-glued plate test.
All profiles are pre-supported and can be printed directly.
There is no significant difference between PETG and PLA, I recommend to use PETG to enhance toughness.
The 73% Size version does not support LED, so its stiffener is the non-LED version by default.
About Assembly：
Please refer to the attached assembly guide for installation instructions. Due to the inclusion of LED components, some parts cannot be secured solely by the stiffener as in the old version. Reinforcement with glue may be necessary depending on the situation.
Due to the extremely limited space inside the sword, using the official kit involves several noteworthy and rather extravagant considerations:
The speaker cannot be installed.
One end of the LED connector cable on the control board must be cut off, and the other end shortened to approximately 5 cm. Otherwise, there is no space for the excess wiring.
The total length of the flexible LED strip is 80 cm, but only about 60 cm is actually needed. The remaining 20 cm must be accommodated by folding or bending the strip, taking care to avoid sharp bends that could damage it.
Therefore, I recommend sourcing alternative components on your own, as the cost of trial and error can be high otherwise. Of course, if you are comfortable with the aforementioned waste, assembly according to my guide is not particularly complicated.
During assembly, if the skull and body pieces are fitted tightly but need to be disassembled, proceed slowly. The body piece is relatively slender, so avoid applying excessive force all at once to prevent them from snapping.
About Color:
Color references are preset in all profiles. It is recommended to print directly with metallic PETG.
The runes are set to translucent blue by default. However, if you choose the sound light kit like I have, which supports RGB color changing, it is recommended to use a transparent clear instead.
The sword in the photo was printed using black PETG-HF and then hand-painted, it was not printed directly in color.
