Description
This knife was designed to be carried around in a handbag, car, pocket or even as a neckknife. The holster features a latch design that is intended to prevent the blade from getting deployed by accident. To open the knife, buttons on both sides of the holster need to be pushed in simultaneously. Screw placement in the body of the knife should assure that the blade stays within the body of the knife, even if it slips out of the intended blade slot. Small ergonomic features on the knife body also provide multiple ways to hold the knife.
The handle halves should be printed with the blade cutout facing the buildplate and with supports turned on. Multiple materials can be used, if your printer and its settings can handle the details.
The holster halves should be printed with the blade cutout facing up, with supports again enabled to allow the countersunk screw and nut holes to be printed correctly. For the holster recommended material is PETG/PCTG, due to the compliant mechanism responsible for locking onto the handle requiring a filament with an ability to flex. The 3mf. file contains all the parts on 2 different platters, all oriented correctly and each model has print settings (which worked for me)configured.
The model orientation mentioned above should be respected for the locking mechanism to print properly.
To assemble the complete knife, you will need 7 M3x5mm screws and 7 M3 nuts - 3 pairs for the holster and 4 pairs for the knife body. If you only have longer screws on hand, using a drill and a hacksaw blade they can be shortened to required length. You will ofcourse also need the disposable knifeblade.
Please keep in mind that the blades are incredibly sharp, and not every 3D printer setup can get the same results. With that being said, i do not recommend carrying this knife close to your body (pocket, necklace) or any other place where it can cause harm by deploying by itself. Please be aware that if you decide to carry the knife like that, you do it at your own responsibility.
First of all I will be thankful for every rating, like, follow or boost. If you have any notes to my design or something does not work for you, please reach out to me. I am currently developing some other versions of the sheath, for example a pocket carry or a rescue version, so stay tuned for more.
Take care
F
