Vintage Phone Book Counter is an analog book counter designed to track the number of books read during the year, inspired by classic red vintage desk phones.
It is made to live on a bookshelf or reading corner as a functional and decorative object, turning reading progress into a simple, tactile daily action.
The model features three front-facing number windows and three side-mounted knurled knobs, each controlling one digit. By rotating the knobs, the user can easily update the total number of books read.
No electronics are required, and there is no need to print, remove, or replace loose numbers: once assembled, the counter is always ready to use.
The overall design recalls a vintage telephone, with a rounded body, side handset, stable base, and clean graphic elements. The object is immediately recognizable, visually balanced, and suitable for any bookshelf, desk, or reading space.
When printing the number strips, it is essential NOT to replace PETG with other materials.
The three number strips are designed to be printed together on a single build plate, stacked and separated by a thin PETG layer.
PETG does not bond to PLA, which allows the parts to be easily and cleanly separated after printing.
This technique: reduces the total number of print jobs; guarantees perfect alignment; simplifies post-processing
It is an intentional and innovative technical solution and part of the design itself.
When gluing the year label (e.g. “2026”), use only a very small amount of glue.
This is intentional: years change, and the label is designed to be easily removable in the future so it can be replaced without damaging the model.
