Description
Filament dry box system for 4 spools to fit inside Sterilite 20qt container.
The setup includes:
- two pipe brackets
- spool spacers
- pipe mounted round hygrometer bracket
- through the wall tube clamping fittings
- tube retainers
- desiccant container
- funnel
- template for drilling holes
The pipe brackets are spaced as far apart as possible for spool stability with spacers to keep each spool in its space.
Desiccant container is single wall which can slide back and forth giving easy access to replace spools and desiccant.
Tube fittings do not require any non-printed parts to hold tubes. The required hole diameter is 1/2". Bolts should be printed with 4 wall loops with 0.4mm nozzle; otherwise, the bolt may snap on tightening. If the cap is tightened all the way without a tube inserted, it may snap one of the jaws. I did this deliberately multiple times in testing and the chuck still works because the jaw never completely separates and stays in place.
Tube retainers are friction fit and will hold the tubes neat and organized. I let tubes hang sometimes, and it doesn't bother me, so not really needed.
I made the funnel so It can stay upright inserted into the desiccant container and can be stored on Dry & Dry 1lb jar.
Template is just to make it easier to repeat the hole positions. I made the feed opening a bit below the full spool level so as the filament is used, the feed line remains relatively straight. You can adjust it as you see fit.
Hygrometer needs to be inserted into the bracket opening and then twisted into correct orientation.
The pipe needed is the standard Schedule 40 PVC water pipe. You would need two pieces 13-1/8" (333mm).
I got the standard AMS tube 4 meters and that is enough for 8 pieces 19" long, so for two boxes.
I wouldn't try to print desiccant container with PETG-CF. The layer to layer adhesion is not very good which may not work well for a single wall construction. It prints just fine in PLA and PETG-HF. The idea was to find a pattern which is fast enough to print and is functional at the same time.
