Description
This modular center astragal system is designed to close the vertical gap between two meeting doors in the IKEA RUDSTA vitrine (https://www.ikea.com/de/de/p/rudsta-vitrine-anthrazit-50450137). The double-door showcase has a visible air gap in the middle where both doors meet. This causes humidity loss and temperature instability– all of which are critical for growing tropical plants, cuttings, and moss.
This printable multi-part astragal (stulpleiste) creates a tight overlapping seal between both doors, just like professional double-window systems. One door becomes the fixed leaf, the other overlaps it cleanly, blocking air exchange without needing rubber seals or complex hardware.
High-humidity plant setups (Monstera, Calathea, Alocasia, moss, cuttings, etc.) need:
This astragal dramatically reduces the biggest leak point of most cabinets:
the center door gap.
One printed strip is mounted to the left door (stand leaf).
The right door then closes against it and overlaps the edge, sealing the middle gap.
This mimics a French door / stulp system, widely used in windows and greenhouse construction.
