Arca Clamp with Quick Release

Wanted a quick release version of the excellent arca-swiss clamp by Eng Workshop and it of course ended with a full redraw although many measurements are similar. Difference here is that it has the quick release and has replaced the metal bolt for a 3d-printed pin.

Hardware needed here is the two springs and the chosen fasteners.

  • 2x Springs, 5mm diameter, 0.4mm wire thickness (many pen springs work). Cut to suitable length.
  • Dowel pin, 2x10mm, a bit a filament work as a temporary replacement for testing but will most likely not hold up in the long run
  • Fasteners (to mount it to something), 2xM3 as standard but it is one of the thing you can customize, both size and distance between them
  • Glue (to the dowel pin)
  • Sandpaper (optional), might be needed to get parts to move smoothly.

Printing

This is a model that will be better if you choose a stiff, strong material. PPA-CF is the ultimate choice but since its expensive and might be hard to print on all printers you can try different other. PLA+, PLA-CF, PETG-CF, ASA-CF might be ok choices.

Every part has an important direction to be printed for maximal strength

Assembling

I tried to keep the margins low because this works best if its a tight fit. Therefore you might have to use sandpaper to a few parts to get them to move smoothly. As a dowel pin for the quick release lever, a bit of filament can be used (might need a drop of glue to stay in place).
