Description
This is an alternative 3D-printed case concept for the M5Stack Cardputer Adv with an external 2.4” SPI TFT display (ILI9341).
The project is based on my custom alternative bottom cover for the Cardputer Adv.
Instead of modifying or breaking the original case with magnets, I designed a new bottom cover and integrated the hinge mechanism directly into it.
As a result, the display opens like a Nintendo DS, and the whole construction remains fully reversible.
Key features
• Hinges and bottom cover are a single конструкtion
• External display acts as both mount and frame
• Opens like a Nintendo DS
• L390 pin holes are preserved
• Designed specifically for Cardputer Adv (not compatible with the non-Adv version)
• Test prototype — geometry and mechanics may still change
Hardware & assembly
• Display: 2.4” SPI TFT (ILI9341)
• Hinge axis: M3 screws
• Display mounting: 4× M2 screws (6 mm length, countersunk)
• Hinges: 2× M3 screws (standard head)
• Total screws required: 6
Printing notes
• Prints without modifications
• Supports are required
• After printing:
• Drill hinge holes with a 3 mm drill
• Drill remaining holes with a ~2 mm drill
• Carefully remove supports, including around L390 pin holes
Important notes
• This is a test prototype, not the final design
• To complete the build, the display wiring needs to be adapted
• A proper connector and internal cable routing are planned for future iterations
More updates and improvements are coming — this project is still evolving.
