Description
2026-04-06 Update: Added option for an extra truss on the bottom of the hook. Added hook_shape_type which has 3 options: Circular, Rectangular, and Flat. I also tweaked some parameters to (hopefully) make the customizer more intuitive to use.
An open-source hook generator for openGrid, utilizing the openConnect system. It is called the "Sturdy Hook" because it is designed to be printed on its side. This circumvents the most common weak point of 3D prints, preventing the hook from breaking along the layer lines.
The hook's width, height, thickness, corner radius, flat bottom length, and tip radius are all fully customizable. There is also a thickness scale factor, allowing the tip to be thinner than the base.
The recommended minimum width for these hooks is 20mm. If you need narrower hooks, check out the openGrid framefit hooks here.
The model is open-source under the CC-BY-SA license. Like all the OpenSCAD models I’ve designed for openGrid, it can be found in this GitHub repository. Feel free to use the code; feedback and suggestions are welcome.
