ID Card Holder Collection – Open, Closed, Hex & Clean Designs

A modern ID card holder collection designed for everyday use.

This collection includes three design variants with different layouts and visual styles: an open hex-pattern version, an open clean version, and a closed hex-pattern version.

I originally designed this holder because I use an access card every day at work and wanted something that looks more modern, feels more durable, and is more visually appealing than a standard badge holder. 

The hex-pattern variants give the holder a more technical and distinctive look while keeping the design lightweight. The clean variant focuses on a simpler and more minimal appearance.

The closed version offers a more enclosed and protective body, while the open versions make card access easier and reduce overall weight.

All variants are designed for standard ID and access cards and include an opening for attaching a lanyard, clip, or badge reel.

Recommended Material

PLA works well for these models and is a good choice for a clean, rigid everyday badge holder.

If you prefer a more durable result, PETG is also a good option. Compared to PLA, PETG is usually less brittle and better suited for a part that is handled regularly over time.

TPU is also possible if you prefer a more flexible holder, but for the full TPU-optimized collection I recommend using the newer extended version linked above.

Print Recommendation

For best results, please use the included print profile.

The models are intended to be printed using the settings already saved in the profile, as these were tested specifically for these designs and the recommended material setup.

For the open variants, I recommend printing the model flat on the build plate. This gives the visible surface a cleaner look and helps keep the geometry accurate.

Because the open variants require support in some areas, I recommend using support filament as support interface material if available. In my own testing, this produced the cleanest result. The supports were still easy to remove, while the supported areas looked much cleaner than with regular supports only.

Support requirements may vary depending on the selected variant, but the provided profile is the recommended starting point for achieving the intended result.

As always, results can vary depending on your printer, slicer settings, filament brand, support material, build plate, and part orientation, so some fine-tuning may still be necessary.
