Bauhaus Style Hooks for Ikea Skadis

From Frustration to Engineering: The Reinforced Skadis Hook That Won't Snap.

I originally designed this hook for my toddler’s "get ready" station. The official IKEA hooks were constantly falling off, creating a safety concern. I knew there was a better way. By utilizing popular M3 hardware and a custom T-Nut, I created a hook more secure than the Skadis board itself. In my stress tests, the board pulled off the wall before the hook failed. It is, quite literally, toddler-proof.

 

Instead of using an existing T-Nut design I created a new one to solve a few issues. 

• I wanted to utilize the popular M3 screws (M3 x 16mm Screw)
• The non-threaded neck allows the screw to align perfectly before the threads bite.
• By only threading the beefy base of the nut, the narrow neck stays solid, serving its primary purpose: keeping the nut perfectly aligned in the open or closed position.
• Designed to be tapped directly by your M3 screw for a rock-solid, custom fit. I found that when trying to use a nut or heat-set insert, there was not enough material to secure the hardware.
