Next one in my intriguing gear less transmissions series. Checkout my other designs.

I present you this fully 3D printable model of a gear principle I stumbled upon on YouTube. I had to redesigned this from the ground up to make it an actual working model. Quite a challenge for my modeling skills especially if you want a low support.

Easy to assemble. No screws, glue or other special tools needed and very low on support and afterwork. Instructions available!

Enjoy, please share your make and a like if you like it.  Keeps me motivated to share my designs.

The Wobbling Pin Gear Mechanism is a clever transmission system that converts an inclined input rotation into a smooth and regular output using a non-rotating pin gear.

In this mechanism, the yellow pin gear (40 pins) is mounted on an inclined portion of the input shaft, causing it to wobble instead of rotating. A stationary blue gear with the same tooth count (40) prevents the pin gear from spinning, forcing it into a controlled oscillating motion. This wobble drives the white output gear (38 teeth), producing a highly regular rotational output in the opposite direction of the input.

With Zgn larger than Zb, the mechanism achieves a large reduction ratio with exceptional smoothness:

Transmission ratio: i = (Zgn – Zb) / Zb = (40 – 38) / 38 = 1/19 This type of gear system is commonly used in precision transmissions, cycloidal drives, and compact high-reduction gearboxes.
