Description

This is a simple remaining filament gauge/estimator I designed. There's a ton of these out there, but I wanted to design something that had the features I wanted:

• Easy to read

• Compact in size

• A quick print that doesn't use a lot of filament

So this is what I came up with.

It's 31x75x3 and only uses 8 g of filament.

I did a ton of testing to make sure the text was as readable as possible while not having to be huge, and I also made the gauge lines a bit thinner than those on most other gauges. I decided to add a bit of flair in the form of a tiny filament spool that doubles as the hanging/keychain hole. Making it easy to read was a top priority so instead of numeric markers every other line like a lot of other gauges, I fit all of them on my gauge, and did my best to try to make it as easy as possible to read and understand.

It's fairly accurate; within 25 g or so, but keep in mind that this should be used as a rough estimate. If you have a 90 g print and your spool is estimated to have 100 g, I'd break out the scale. 😉

Here's an example of a partial spool:

Using my gauge it has roughly 350 g left. The edge of the spool is between the 400 and 300 lines.

So according to the scale, the spool+filament weighs 588 g. Subtracting the empty spool weight and cardboard core (239 g total) leaves 349 g.

Good enough for me. 🍻

I printed the one in the pics in polymaker's new PETG (amazing!) in blue with the accents with generic white PETG.

Thanks for stopping by and happy printing! 🍻
