Helix Core

Endless Motion Optical Illusion

Experience a mesmerizing mechanical illusion.

When you gently move the sliding piece up and down, the helix appears to travel endlessly inside the frame — as if it never reaches the top or the bottom. The motion creates a captivating infinite loop effect that draws the eye and keeps you watching.

This design combines minimal structure with dynamic visual movement, resulting in a modern kinetic sculpture that feels almost impossible at first glance.

✨ Smooth vertical motion
✨ Endless up-and-down illusion
✨ Clean, contemporary design
✨ Perfect as a desk piece or conversation starter

The contrast between the solid outer frame and the moving internal helix enhances the illusion, making the motion feel continuous and infinite in both directions.

Ideal for:

  • Optical illusion enthusiasts
  • 3D printing fans
  • Modern desk decor
  • Unique and satisfying display pieces

If you print it, feel free to share your version and color combinations! I used the Rosa Gold PLA Slik Filament for the Helix.

Assembly Instructions

Follow these steps to assemble your Helix Core correctly:

1️⃣ Insert the Slider

Start by inserting the slider piece into the helix body.
Make sure it moves smoothly inside the helix before proceeding to the next step.

2️⃣ Close the Helix

Attach the top cap (the closing piece) onto the upper end of the helix.
Ensure it is properly seated and aligned so the slider remains secured inside.

3️⃣ Insert the Helix into the Frame

Carefully place the assembled helix into the outer frame/support.
Check that it is centered and positioned correctly within the guide channels.

4️⃣ Close the Frame

Attach the final frame piece to lock everything in place.

Printing Recommendations

Because the helix is a tall and slender part, it is important to reduce printing speed to ensure stability and good surface quality.

Fast movements can cause vibrations, which may lead to:

  • Layer shifting
  • Reduced print quality
  • Instability in very thin sections

I strongly recommend using a slow print profile. I have already included optimized speed settings in the Bambu Studio project file.

For even better results, you can:

  • Enable Silent Mode on your printer to reduce vibrations
  • Lower outer wall speed
  • Reduce acceleration values
  • Ensure good bed adhesion before starting the print

Printing slower will significantly improve the final result and help prevent unwanted movement during the print process.
