Description
I have tested just about every 3D tire insert online (excluding highly overpriced, pre-printed inserts) and none have seemed to satisfy. Through some research and review reading, I came up with this design for my Injora 60x20mm XHX pin tires. It allows the outside portion of the tire/tread to conform softly over the terrain while the insert creates a stiffer sidewall the closer you get to the wheel itself. I do not do scientific testing, nor have I weighed my rig, but I will say these things slap!
I trimmed away about 2mm from the inside of the foam inserts; you can use a leather punch to create extra holes in the foam to make them softer. Most of my crawling consists of man-made textures and hard-solid rock (desert) so I prefer to run my tires a little bit on the stiff side.
If you open the 3mf file, the settings I used should work for you. I printed these in TPU 85 with Max Volumetric Speed set to 3.2mm/s. No supports are needed and messing with the infill “%” will give you different feedback on your terrain (at this scale, you won't notice too much lol).
As I run different tires, I will be releasing more files for those tires! Let's keep the hobby fun and affordable, happy crawling!
