A1 Touch Display Extension

This will extend the display UP 20mm RIGHT 20mm and BACK 20mm. It puts the left edge of the screen in line with the right edge of the printer base.

No hardware or special tools are required for this modification. Simply print the extension and mount it between the screen assembly and printer base.

I tested this in both PLA and PETG. PLA works fine but PETG is of course stronger and will hold up better. I went with the PLA for color match.

COME ON BAMBU! What’s it going to take to get Light Gray PETG?  😊

*Something to considered before installation; Inspect the length of your ribbon cable to ensure it's long enough. When laid flat (parallel to the screen), my cable extended 9cm past the edge of the screen. If yours does not, this won’t work for you.

To Install, follow Bambu Labs touch screen replacement guide.

https://wiki.bambulab.com/en/a1/maintenance/touchscreen-replacement-guide

Before step one of the re-installation instructions:

  • Clean the old lubricant from the screen mount before inserting it into the extension. The screen clips into the extension and does not rotate so no lubrication is needed.
  • Insert the touch screen into the socket of the extension.
  • Lubricate the end of extension.
  • Insert the end of the extension into the printer base following the instructions in step one. The fit will be very snug while inserting into the base until the lug is through the keyway.

This is the forerunner of a version I am working on that will replace the factory screen stem for the purpose of adding the ability to also pivot the screen up and down. I'm also thinking of a version that uses the same wire path to relocate the camera to be mounted on the back of the screen. If interested , stay tuned.
