Description
As a broke college student who has a mild doom scroll problem, I was looking for a solution. There are many app block tools that cost a lot of money, while the product itself is 3D printed. I wanted to create a free version to help people regain control over their phone and become more productive.
I created SNAP puck. It has a minimalistic design with space for two magnets so it can be attached to your fridge or near your door. Inside is a NFC tag. The print profile has a pause so you can insert the tag. I have made two variants, a negative and a positive text imprint. I have included two small test print for each so you can experiment with clean top surface settings to get the desired look. I have my puck near the door. Whenever I leave for work, I Snap out and block my distracting apps. When I return home, I Snap back in.
Important!
I was planning on making free software for this tool. Halfway, I found out about Foqos. This app has every feature I wanted to include in my software. It already works with NFC tags and they made a tutorial, so you can snap in and out of your apps on your home screen, no need to enter the app first. This makes the app very convenient to use. I do NOT claim/own/steal/take credit in anything software wise. I am in no way related to FOQOS. THEY created this amazing software for people to use for free. I just designed this print to house the NFC tag since I wanted something that fits my desk and house decoration. If you have time, check out their website and support them. They made a awesome app to help people for free so they deserve all the credits: Foqos — Free iPhone App Blocker (Open Source) | Brick, Bloom, Unpluq Alternative
App setup and home screen tutorial:
Use the NFC tools app to program your NFC's. This is not required for the FOQOS app but you can check if your tag works.
The FOQOS app makers have made a detailed tutorial on how to install the app and use the shortcuts to create a home screen shortcut. I could make a whole step-by-step tutorial, but it won't get any better than their tutorial. You can find the tutorial here: GitHub - awaseem/foqos: Foqos allows you to lock apps behind the tap of a NFC tag or scan of a QR code. Free and open source alternative to Brick, Bloom, Unpluq, Blok and more!
I added a widget to my home screen so I can see when the profile is active. Hold down on the home screen, tap edit and add the FOQOS widget.
That's it! Enjoy!
